There are some moments in our life journey that must be acknowledged, honoured and celebrated to its fullest. Milestones and touch points as we go along in life that deserve to be made a fuss over.
I believe behind every special celebration there is a personal story.
And it’s that story that makes important celebrations that much more meaningful and sweeter to experience.
My story
I had been through hell and back the previous year and finally, finally I began to see my rainbow after so much rain and pain.
And It was time to celebrate.
I wanted to be celebrated.
It was summer of 2012. I was in such a great place in my life. I was pretty happy. Everything in my life was going really well.
I was in my flow.
My work was thriving, I felt vibrant, healthy and fully on top of MY own world for a change!
My 30th Birthday was drawing near and it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate ME, MY LIFE - MY WAY and I wanted to do it big! Like, P. Diddy style! Lol (but on a slightly more modest budget! Lol) but I knew I wanted to do something unique and memorable.
Stepping out of my 20’s season of life and into a new season of being in my 30’s, having a party that was centred around me and all the things I love, around the people I love, in my mind felt absolutely right for me.
I had such an epic birthday celebration. The memories created, even now, years and years on I still laugh, smile and occasionally speak about with friends and family with energetic nostalgia.
That was a milestone I will never forget. No just because of the epic party, but because it marked a point in my life I was really thriving and happy.
You see, it wasn’t always like that for me. I endured some real tough times, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. I had dark periods in my life full of anxiety, disappointments, knock backs, rejection, loneliness, depression, break up’s, break down’s and failures. Times where no matter what I did, life kept serving me lemons and it just became too much to bare.
I weren’t so sure I wanted to continue with live or make it through.
I know you understand what I mean. The highs and lows of life.
So, It wasn’t just only about a celebration of the day I was born, it was a celebration of my personal journey up to this point.
30 years!
30 years of my wins, my personal and professional victories, the losses I endured and STILL dusting myself off and getting back up. All the hardships I overcame. It was time to pause and observe how far I have come from where I was and who I use to be and where I am now and how proud I am of that.
These moments in life deserve to be marked with something unique.
And mark I did!
Leading up to my epic display of celebrations I wanted to create (my party lol) I was stressed the hell out. I won’t lie, being the control freak I am I did EVERYTHING myself! EVERYTHING! And whilst running around ragged doing it all I lost a stone of weight doing it. Plus I was freelancing loads so I felt like I had two full time jobs!
If I could do it all again, there is one thing I would do differently.
Hired professional help!
I don’t know what I was thinking, doing it all my self. No wonder I was overly stressed leading up to the event. I had the money to hire people but the control freak in me wasn’t letting up.
My biggest concern was my guests. My dear family, friends and work colleagues all under one roof and how the hell I was going to keep them all amused all evening! (After all, there is only so far alcohol and food can keep people happy entertained.) I was so concerned about other people having a good time, I often forgot that it was my day and I need to have fun too!! haha!!
